2 million copies in one day: Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced shatters franchise records

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced sold 2 million copies on launch day, July 9, becoming the fastest-selling entry in the franchise in years. It peaked at 99,451 concurrent players on Steam within 24 hours, a franchise record, and dominated Twitch on day one.

Resynced earned 85% on Open Critic and 84% on Metacritic, the highest scores for any Assassin's Creed title since the original Black Flag in 2013. IGN gave it a 9/10, calling it "bigger and better in all the ways that matter." Digital Foundry praised it as "one of the most effective remakes we've ever seen."

Martin Schelling, head of the Assassin's Creed brand, said: "Black Flag has always held a special place in the heart of the community, and ours. Bringing it back with Resynced was a promise to that passion for Edward's adventures, and to the unique sense of freedom players experienced back then. Seeing so many players set sail on day one, along with the great reviews from critics, is the greatest reward we could have hoped for."

Ubisoft Singapore rebuilt Resynced from the ground up on the latest Anvil engine, overhauling visuals, combat, stealth, and naval mechanics, and adding new narrative content. This is a full remake, not a simple remaster.

Players once again sail the Golden Age of Piracy as Edward Kenway, caught between Assassins and Templars, with cameos from Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, and Calico Jack.

The original Black Flag remains a series high point, and these numbers show players are ready to set sail with Kenway again. Day-one sales match or surpass those of many new IP launches.

On Twitch, the game was the most-watched on July 9, outpacing established live-service titles. It is also Steam Deck verified, expanding its reach to portable PC gamers.
