89 Emmy nominations across 15 shows. Apple's streaming bet is no longer a gamble.

Apple TV just put together its strongest Emmy season yet. The streamer earned 89 nominations across 15 shows for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, announced July 8 by the Television Academy. That beats its own previous records and placed Apple ahead of every other network in the Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Comedy series categories, according to the press release.

The nominations cap a run that saw Apple take home more Emmys last year than any other platform. In 2025, The Studio became the most-winning freshman comedy in Emmy history, and Severance led as the year's most-winning drama. This year, the spread is wider: 15 separate Apple Originals earned recognition, up from a narrower slate in prior seasons. This deep bench signals more than creative momentum, it shows that Apple's insistence on building an entirely original library, rather than licensing old hits, may finally be paying off, as seen in the challenges of AI-generated content discussed in the illusion of infinite content.

Widow's Bay and Pluribus carry the weight

The biggest haul belongs to Widow's Bay, a horror-comedy hybrid set on a cursed New England island. It scored 19 nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series, acting nods for Matthew Rhys, Kate O'Flynn, Dale Dickey, and Stephen Root, plus directing and writing nominations for Hiro Murai and Katie Dippold, respectively. That makes it one of the most-nominated comedies this cycle across any platform. Meanwhile, Pluribus, the freshman drama from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, landed 18 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, lead actress for Rhea Seehorn, and multiple supporting and guest acting slots. Gilligan himself was nominated for both writing and directing.

Shrinking collected 10 nominations, with Harrison Ford and Michael J. Fox, Fox's first acting nomination in over a decade, among the recognized cast. Margo's Got Money Troubles made its Emmy debut with 8 nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and lead actress for Elle Fanning. Slow Horses earned its third consecutive Outstanding Drama Series nomination with 9 total. Your Friends & Neighbors picked up its first-ever drama series nod.

Apple also broke into the nonfiction categories with Mr. Scorsese, the Rebecca Miller documentary about Martin Scorsese, which scored 3 nominations including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series. The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy earned its second nomination in the hosted nonfiction category.

Apple's streaming bet is paying off at awards time

The breadth matters more than the total. Apple is the only streamer that launched with an all-original slate, it had no licensed library to pad its schedule. That bet looked risky in 2019. Six years later, the platform has accumulated 850 wins and 3,734 nominations across films, documentaries, and series, according to the company. But making original content at scale is expensive, as the cost pressures in AI model training show, high output demands high investment, per the $314 billion assumption that just broke. Apple's ability to sustain this level of quality without a catalog hedge will determine whether its awards momentum turns into genuine market share.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on September 14.
